Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy appreciating Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) for attaining the distinction of being the Engineering Project of the Year out of 100 top global infrastructure projects said that it would attract further investments in the State. The three other projects have also gained this recognition- Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline (USD$7bn, Rs. 37,800 crores of Azerbaijan, Hyderabad Metro Rail (USD $ 2.6bn,Rs. 14,132 crores of India and Al Abdaliyah Integrated Solar Combined Cycle Plant of Kuwait, which were actually short-listed for the final round. They competed for the award based upon intensive evaluation of multiple parameters.
The Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), Mr. N.V.S Reddy, along with Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Mr. B. Sam Bob and Secretary to CM. No doubt, the power point presentation presented by Managing Director of HMR. Mr. N.V.S Reddy did have a major impact on the overall selection processes.
Dr. K.S. Jawahar Reddy received the Engineering Project of the Year award from Chief Executive Officer of Aconex, Mr. Leigh Jasper and President and CEO of CG/LA Infrastructure, Mr. Norman Anderson in New York on Thursday, February 28 at a
function attended by around 400 top public and private sector executives, bankers, financial experts, consultants and industry leaders specializing in infrastructure projects.
Presenting the awards, Mr. Leigh Jasper said that the Project of the Year Awards recognize exceptional projects as well as leadership. Mr. Norman Anderson stated that the winning projects not only represent best practices, but also mobilize this generation’s legacy for the next generation and are certainly designs for the future.
Other four awards presented include, Job Creation Project of the Year Award to Detroit River International Crossing/Champion Bridge (USD 3.5bn, Rs. 18,900 crore of Canada, Green Infrastructure Project of the Year to the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers (USD 5.4bn, Rs.29,160 crore of South Africa, Finance Project of the Year to Rio de Janeiro Airport Concession (USD 3.2bn,Rs.17,280cr) of Brazil, and Strategic Project of the Year to Etihad Rail (USD 11bn,Rs.59,400 crore) of the United Arab Emirates.
Supported by several top global consultancy and infrastructure firms, The Global Infrastructure Leadership Forum had initially selected 100 projects from around the world as the “Strategic Hundred” based on several criteria such as business opportunity, productivity creation, competitiveness creation, job creation and carbon efficiency. These top global 100 infrastructure projects had been identified for their ability to create world-class infrastructure in their respective sectors and regions and to contribute to the competitiveness and economic development of their respective countries/regions.
HMR has indeed come a long way! The efforts put in by all have proved to be meritorious.
