Hyderabad Metro Rail has been mandated to resolve the increasing traffic congestions arising from the rapid growth of Hyderabad City as an affordable IT destination and caters to the increase growth in population over the last decade. The need for a new elevated Metro Rail System that is robust, rapid and ecofriendly mass transportation system has been considered by the Government of Andhra Pradesh to reduce commuting time between homes and workplaces, since the existing public transport systems are not able to meet the intra-city requirements. So, the Government of Andhra Pradesh partnered with L&T to successfully implement a world-class mass rapid transport system Hyderabad Metro Rail.
HMR is one of the largest projects of its kind in the world and the country’s first two-track elevated city transit system under the PPP model in Hyderabad. Hyderabad’s elevated Metro Rail will provide a fast, reliable, affordable, convenient, efficient, modern and economical mode of public transport service for commuting to different places throughout the Hyderabad City in the shortest possible time.
Hyderabad’s Metro Rail will have a Project Size of 14,132 Crore, run for a length of 71 Km, with stations positioned at every kilometer to carry 15,00,000 commuters every day, collaboratively integrating with other modes of public transport like MMTS and RTC, thereby enabling the commuters to conveniently interchange from one mode to another. The proposed Metro Rail Project will be a major environment friendly endeavor, impacting the growth of Hyderabad City while significantly contributing to reduce carbon emissions, improved carbon foot print, lessoning fossil fuel consumption, reducing vehicle operating costs & travel time. Metro Rail will result in less road accidents, travel stress and fatigue while reducing pollution etc. The project is designed by experts in such a way that it minimizes the inconvenience to the public during construction phase, enhances the skyline and occupies the least space for a project of this size and complexity.
